Topic: What was State-Of-Art Service Station is now a Piece of Art."

About a month ago Susan and I were out for an MG drive and drove past a Vintage Shell Station that we have driven by many times, but this time we stopped and took a few photos. I called the owner of the building John Rich (JR Transmission). He has agreed to allow the MMGG to use the station as a Vintage Service Station backdrop on October 2nd.

The building was built in 1918 - 1920 as a state-of-art service station shortly after WWI. Rich's father and uncle worked there after WWII and retired after 23 years. Rich started working there in 1974. When highway 95 (Bayport’ main street) was improved and resulted in the service station ending up just off the main street.  Rich has owned the building for the past twenty-three years.

We will start at the Shell station in Bayport Minnesota (address 397 5th Ave N, Bayport, MN 55003, at noon. After the photoshoot we can grab a bite to eat in Bayport.  We can have lunch at the 210 BBQ (328 5th Ave No. Bayport, MN).  After that we can leisurely drive along the St. Croix up to Osceola.

Osceola is the location of the Minnesota Transportation Museums’ Osceola & Saint Croix Valley Railway.  The Railway offers one and ½-hour rides on a steam locomotive.  The available departure time on Oct 2nd is at 4:00pm. Tickets are $25 for adults and $22 for seniors.  It is about a one hour drive from Bayport to Osceola.

If you wish to purchase a ticket for the railroad steam train ride you will need to purchase the tickets online. Minnesota Transportation Museum | Jackson Street Roundhouse. Plan to arrive 30 minutes prior to departure time. Departure is not held for late-arriving passengers.

After that we’ll conclude our drive, and each person can choose the best route to return home.  If you would like to attend this drive, please register on the MMGG website or send us an email.

Best wishes, Paul and Susan Lyon
