  28th Annual All Sports Car Swap Meet and Autojumble

  otherwise known as the CMGC Annual Swap Meet

  Since 1997 the CMGC swap meet has been held at the DuPage County Fairgrounds in Wheaton, Illinois in early spring. The site is an indoor heated facility that is centrally located approximately 30 miles due west of downtown Chicago.
  

  Vendors hurry and get your registration in early. All vendors will be indoors, within a heated facility that is centrally located approximately 30 miles due west of downtown Chicago.

  Gate Admission tickets will be $7. Kids 12 and under (accompanied by an adult) are still free. As always, parking is free. Check the Chicago area Craigslist for Swap Meet vendor posting under ‘Auto Parts’. There will be a food vendor on site and an ATM in the building. Nearby lodging is available for out of town visitors.

  Spring has not sprung but planning must be made!  Weather will be the deciding factor.  With only lawn seating available hopefully we can travel to the Glewwe Castle Brewery again to toast Cecil Kimber. Driving our MG's!  

  Departing Joseph's Grill in St. Paul after our kickoff brunch between 11:30 & 12 for a 60 minute drive. 

  

  Today we celebrate what would be his 137th birthday of April 12th 1888.

  Happy Birthday to the Father of MG, Cecil Kimber, who was born on this day in 1888.
  Kimber was born in London and in his youth was a keen motorcyclist until an accident saw him move from two wheels to four.

  He became Managing Director of MG in 1930, a year after the firm moved to Abingdon.
  Kimber was instrumental in making MG the force it would become, with a global reputation for engaging and affordable sportscars.
  

  His untimely death in 1945 is still regarded as a tragedy amongst fans of the marque. Harold Hastings, Midlands Editor of Motor magazine and Cecil’s longstanding acquaintance, was quoted in MG by McComb: “There is no doubt that he was an idealist…. What part he could have played in the post-war motoring world… is difficult to foresee, as his idealism would have become steadily more out of keeping with the hard commercialism of recent years. Of one thing I am quite sure, however, and that is that he would have battled on to keep the M.G. an exclusive enthusiast’s car.”

  Kimber's attitude of what made MG special is best summed up with one of his famous quotes: "The secret and charm of an MG is the way they handle. Whether you're dawdling along enjoying the spring sunshine or shaking out a reef and making the knots along an empty arterial road..."

  June is a busy month for those of you ready and wanting to drive. Starting off June on the 8th with another invite to the Gary Curtis Driving Experience. The Gary Curtis Driving Experience is kicking off the season and we are invited through Alejandro Sanchez of the Minnesota T register and Gary Curtis Driving Experience instructor, to participate in an informal car show on Sunday, June 8th. Join us for an informal car show during a performance driving school day at the track.

  When the track goes cold, at noon, we’ll be allowed to lap the track at moderate speeds (no helmets needed).

  Curious to see what your car can do on the track with professional instruction?

  Strap in and get ready because the Gary Curtis Performance Driving Experience is here to teach you how to get the most out of your ride! After 25 years at the Brainerd International Raceway running the BIR Performance Driving School, Gary Curtis has brought his Performance Driving Experience to Rosemount, MN, under the banner Gary Curtis Driving Experience!

  75th Anniversary of the Gathering of the Faithful (GOF) Central

  This is the 44th Gathering of the Faithful (GOF) in the Midwest.

  GOFs started as an annual gathering bringing together owners and enthusiasts of MG T-series cars (T-series were made 1936-1954). There will be a Car Show at St. James Farm, rolling tech with John Twist, block party at the Wednesday Night Car Club, a British Tea Party, Value Cover Races, and a  Funkhana. Plenty of room for trailers, covered parking available. Drives to Femi, Morton Arboretum, Cantigny Park – First Division Museum, along the Fox River and more.

  The  MN MG Group and the Minnesota T Register expect to be part of  a large turnout for the British marque, the featured car group at the Chanhassen AutoPlex the morning of Saturday, August 30th. 

  Please ARRIVE between 7:30 & 8am.
  

  Fellow MG'ers:  Saturday, August  30th, the featured marque will be British Cars including MG, Mini, Aston, Jag, McLaren.  

  • The address for Chanhassen AutoPlex is: 1740 Motorplex Court, Chanhassen.  It is about 1/2 mile south of Hwy 5 off Audubon Rd.  
  • New Hours!  The car show runs from 9:00 AM - 1:00 PM.  
  • One of us will be there to direct you on parking.  The MG's will be parked against the garages across from the clubhouse in the main area.  The Mini's will be in the courtyard next to the Clubhouse where we have been in the past.
  • There is no charge to be part of the show but donations welocome.

  • Local Chanhassen favorites, Dandy Lion Coffee and Dog Park Gourmet, will be on site to provide great drinks and food to enjoy while at the show.
  • If your car is a 'leaker', please bring cardboard.  We will have a few pieces to share.
  • Best in Show:  Each month one of the Chanhassen AutoPlex board members will hand out a best-of-show trophy.  This happens at NOON, so you must be present to win.

  If your car is a “leaker”, please plan to bring cardboard or drip pan. If you don’t have any, let us know and we will see if we can find some for you. 

  Each month will be operated by members of a different charity — Free will donations at the gate are always appreciated —- 100% of the donations will be going to this months charity. There is no obligation to contribute.
