Any MMGG Members interested in a MGB Restoration seminar?
I want to share with all of you an upcoming opportunity for you to learn about that new wire feed welder you got yourself for Christmas! Please reach out and act fast as space is limited.
This comes to us from fellow MMGG member Terry Tobin and his "light restoration project" that started with updating the carpet on his 67B, which turned into a bigger deal. He quickly realized that a need to get better at welding to do the job right was in his future. (text book example of mission creep)
I'm a member of the MMGG and am doing a ground up restoration on my 67 MGB. While looking for resources I found a shop in Holland MI that conducts training seminars on sheet metal replacement/welding/etc. I have been in contact with instructor, Carl Heideman, Eclectic Motorworks, and am waiting for him to get back the results from poll of people who have shown interest in the class to see what dates in Jan-Feb work for them. The Saturday/Sunday class costs $750 and includes a meal or two.
The good news is Carl reduced the price of the class to only $595 per person so that helps the cost of education!
In addition to offering seminars at Eclectic Motorworks, Carl has taught seminars at University Motors, Steve's Antique Auto Repair, the Carlisle Import/Kit Nationals, and many British car events around the country.
Now here is the good part!
Carl from Eclectic Motorworks informed me that he is planning to conduct the rust repair and welding seminar on Feb 3-4. He hopes to train 3 to 6 people and still has spaces available. I am planning to attend the class.
If anyone from our club is interested in attending the seminar they certainly could ride with me to Holland MI.
Please feel free to share this with club members.
Thanks,
Terry Tobin
Rust Repair & Welding
Rust Repair and Welding classes are two day classes that covers sheet metal forming, welding, patch panel installation, and sill/pillar repair. Individual classes focus either on “body-on-frame” cars generally using the MGA as an example or unibody cars generally using an MGB for demonstrations. The first day focuses on general skills and welding, with hands-on time for welding instructions. The second day continues to focus on building welding skills as well as working on the specifics of unibody restoration using a shop vehicle as a demonstration vehicle. Part of the second day is spent correctly fitting doglegs, fender bottoms, rockers, etc.. Class size is limited to 6 participants. The class costs $750 and includes lunch and snacks both days as well as Saturday night dinner.
